Printer Compatibility Finder for Shopify
A custom Shopify application that helps customers instantly find compatible ink cartridges using a searchable printer database of over 3,000 models, improving the shopping experience while simplifying catalog management.
Problem
The store sells printer cartridges compatible with thousands of printer models. Customers often struggled to identify the correct cartridge for their printer, leading to frustration, abandoned purchases, and support requests.
Managing compatibility data was also difficult. Updating printer models and cartridge relationships directly in Shopify products was time-consuming and not scalable.

Solution
I built a custom Shopify application that allows customers to search for their printer model and instantly view all compatible cartridges.
To make the system easy to maintain, I developed an admin interface that manages printer compatibility using Shopify Metaobjects. This enables store administrators to add, update, and organize thousands of printer models without modifying product data manually.
The application integrates seamlessly with the storefront while keeping the data centralized and easy to maintain.

Lessons
This project reinforced the importance of designing scalable data models before implementation. Shopify Metaobjects proved to be an excellent solution for managing structured data outside of products, while the GraphQL Admin API provided the flexibility needed to build powerful custom merchant tools.
It also highlighted how a well-designed internal admin experience can be just as valuable as customer-facing features, significantly reducing maintenance time and improving long-term scalability.
